Choosing Glass for uPVC Windows
Toughened glass is several times stronger and breaks into small pieces. Laminated glass holds together when broken and cuts noise. Double glass insulates against heat and sound. Frosted glass gives privacy.
Glass types
| Glass | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Clear float | Standard glass | Small, low windows |
| Toughened | Much stronger; breaks into small blunt pieces | Doors, large panels, high floors |
| Laminated | Stays in one piece if broken; reduces noise | Bedrooms on busy roads, safety |
| Double glazed (DGU) | Two panes with an air gap; insulates | Hot or noisy rooms |
| Frosted | Lets light in, blocks the view | Bathrooms |
| Reflective / tinted | Cuts glare and heat | West-facing rooms |
Our advice
Use toughened glass for doors and large panels, laminated for bedrooms facing roads, and frosted for bathrooms. Our expert will suggest glass for each opening during the site visit.
