How to Measure Windows and Doors for uPVC

Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, and the height at the left, middle and right. Use the smallest of each. Note the room, the type of window you want and take a photo.

What you need

  • A steel measuring tape
  • Paper or your phone to note sizes
  • Your phone camera

Step by step

  • Measure the width of the opening brick-to-brick at the top, middle and bottom.
  • Measure the height at the left, middle and right.
  • Write down the smallest width and the smallest height. Walls are rarely perfectly straight.
  • Use one unit for everything: millimetres, inches or feet.
  • Note the room and what you want (sliding, casement, mesh, grill).
  • Take a photo of each opening from inside.
